President Erdoğan targeted LGBTI+s at the UN General Assembly

"We can only break this siege by protecting the family consisting of men and women," said President Erdogan, adding that he will continue his policies in this direction, reported Kaos GL. 

In his address to the 81st UN General Assembly, President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan targeted LGBTI+s by referring to "global degenderisation." Erdoğan claimed that the policies he characterised as "global degenderization policies" target the institution of the family and children.

President Erdoğan stated the following:

“As our world changes rapidly, humanity has begun to face new social threats. Foremost among these is Islamophobia, which is spreading like the plague in the West. In recent years, Muslim women and girls have been increasingly subjected to discrimination. We view the headscarf bans implemented in schools in certain countries as an attack on women's most fundamental rights. Rising xenophobia, cultural racism, and antisemitism are also toxic trends that must be combated resolutely. We must recognize that global efforts to erase gender distinctions have turned these policies into a siege targeting not only the institution of the family but also innocent children. We can break this siege only by protecting the family unit, composed of a man and a woman. Despite attacks by lobby groups, Turkey will continue to take the initiative in protecting families and children. Another factor threatening social peace is the spread of disinformation on social media. Defending the truth has become more important today than ever before. Artificial intelligence presents a similar challenge. The time has long since come to establish a common international legal framework for artificial intelligence.”
