Javid Nabiyev returned to Azerbaijan

LGBTI+ rights defender Javid Nabiyev returned to Azerbaijan yesterday on 16 September, after 6 years of self-imposed exile in Germany. Speaking to Minority Azerbaijan, the human rights defender said that after the oppression he was faced six years ago, he needed treatment and rehabilitation, as well as self-development. That is why he left the country.

According to Javid, during his stay in Europe, he began conducting international campaigns on LGBTI+ rights in Azerbaijan, establishing relations with various organizations, and graduated with a master's degree in International Human Rights Law from the Central European University.

"I think it is time to apply the knowledge and experience I have gained. I want to contribute to LGBTI+ community building in the country, increase community visibility, promote the rights of LGBTI+s and advocacy," said Javid Nabiyev.
