QAF announced an open call
QAF has announced an open call for the Queer Justice Fellowship program.
JOIN NOW: Apply for the "Queer Justice" Fellowship Program by Queer Art Festival (QAF). The program explores the intersection of the climate crisis, the built environment, and queer experiences.
As a fellow, you'll have the opportunity to create your own film and participate in local, regional, and international screenings.
Here's a brief overview of the "Queer Justice" Fellowship:
Into the urgent issues highlighted in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, QAF is dedicated to investigating how architecture and design can contribute to reducing inequality and fulfilling the UN's commitment to 'Leave No One Behind' (LNOB). This project bridges education, digital media, creative labor, and queer culture, using film as a tool to explore social and environmental justice.
We are inviting applications from five fellows working at the intersection of film, climate crisis, and queer activism. The selected fellows will work closely with mentors to produce short films within a two-month timeframe. The focus will be on addressing the challenges faced by queer communities in city planning, considering the lens of the climate crisis, and proposing innovative solutions to these intersecting issues. Don't miss this chance to contribute to positive change and make your impact felt!
What to Expect?
Introduction Workshop: January 5-7, 2024 in Ganja
During the 3-day workshop, participants will have the opportunity to delve into the fundamental concepts of urbanism and the climate crisis. Subsequently, they will explore these issues through a queer lens. The workshops will encompass both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practices using non-formal education methods.
Fellowship Program: January 15 - March 15, 2024 in Baku
From January 15 to March 15, with the guidance of a mentor, fellows will develop their ideas and create short films. Mentors will provide support on the chosen topic, cinematography, and film editing. The goal is to finalize the films by March 15. Throughout the fellowship, artists will receive a stipend for two months.
Local and Regional Screening: April 8-14, 2024 in Baku and Tbilisi
In early April, fellows will participate in a local film screening in Baku, showcasing their films to a broader audience. Later that week, they will attend a regional screening in Tbilisi, Georgia, lasting two days.
International Screening: May 23-25, 2024 in Copenhagen
In May, fellows will travel to Copenhagen to present their films in the International Premieres alongside fellows from other countries. Both events offer networking opportunities with like-minded individuals, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and connections.
Following these in-person activities, the films will transition into the digital realm. All films and relevant material regarding inclusive and sustainable urbanism produced during the project will be accessible online. This collection will become part of the global Film Mosaic, featuring everyday voices from diverse geographical and cultural contexts, available for researchers, educators, laymen, and decision-makers.
QAF will cover all costs related to the program and in-person visits, including food, accommodation, travel expenses, and visas.
Who can apply?
The fellowship programme is open to queer people and women with a passion for social and environmental justice and experience in relevant fields such as filmmaking, architecture, and planning. The long workshop format caters to young, driven creatives who would like to expand their knowledge and practice across disciplines.
Applicants are expected to have a basic knowledge of film production.
